The Must-Read Information About Doctoral Degree

What is much more common is that they will offer to train you for the Master’s and the Ph.D. at the same time, meaning you’ll come out with both of the degrees at the end of the program. It is, however, still very likely that if you’re interested in getting a Ph.D., you’ll have to get that Master’s first, before you can even get into the Ph.D. program. The Ph.D. course length varies depending on what program you are in.

If you want to get a Medical degree, you first need to get a bachelor’s degree. Usually, they aren’t picky about what your degree is, but it helps on your application to get something that is at least somewhat related to medicine. Then you need to pass the MCATs, which are the American standardized tests for getting into Med school. Med school itself is a rather long process that requires you spend usually from 4 to 6 years studying, then a year interning, and then have a year or two practicing residency before you become an official full-fledged doctor. This, as I said, is a field of work that is much more focused on the practical application of knowledge rather than the mastery of the knowledge itself, though the Ph.D. does often have a focus in practical application.

The education doctoral degree for law is known as a Juris Doctorate, or a JD. This is, in terms of time, one of the easiest doctoral degrees to get. It typically means getting a bachelor’s degree in any subject, from Political Science to History to the Humanities – whatever – and then passing the LSAT, the law standardized test, and getting into law school. Law school is two or three years long, and upon graduation, you get the JD. This makes you eligible for becoming a lawyer, though to practice law, you must pass the bar exam in the area you wish to practice in.

All of these education doctoral degree programs will essentially make you an expert in your field. It is possible to continue education after a Ph.D., an MD, a JD, or any of the other doctorates, but generally these programs are conducted through research. That’s the next big step after this. As I said though, if you’re planning on getting a doctorate, expect to spend close to 10 years achieving it after high school, unless you’re getting a Law degree, in which case, you’ll only spend about 6 to 7 years.
